Can you believe it is August and we are headed back to school? The summer weeks seem to have flown by with new challenges coming our way regularly. However, I believe we will be ready to start with a great program for your students on August 18.
We are planning for K-2nd to come back in-person. We are able to do all this under the umbrella of day care which schools are authorized to provide. The classes are small so they will be able to social distance adequately and stay in their cohorts. We will begin heightened cleaning protocols. The small number will give us the opportunity to work out manageable systems for maintaining all the necessary procedures before being overwhelmed with larger numbers of students.
Students in 3rd-12th grade will begin the year with distance learning. It will be similar to how it was in the spring except that teachers have learned some better practices, and have had time to reflect on their teaching and students' responses.
We will be using a block schedule in JH and HS this year. This will limit students' interaction with each other and teachers and make it easier to maintain social distance. Students will not use lockers this year, but will have to carry their books for the day, however with block scheduling they will have 4 classes/day instead of 6.
Our teachers begin working this week on Wednesday. They will be sending more information about their classes and how things will work in the coming week or two. Please look out for that. Lynette will also be sending the Welcome Packet with general information but there will be a COVID-19 addendum for those on campus that you will receive before the start of school.
A new development this year is that we are launching Eagle Academy 2.0. Its main function will be as a school of record for homeschool students, but we do offer part-time enrollment as well. In past years we have had many homeschoolers join our sports teams and our musicals. This year they may also join academic classes. If you know any homeschoolers who may need to find a school of record or certain classes, please let them know about Judson's Eagle Academy.
We have been working on some reorganization at school over the summer which will be great for when we return to the campus. Now we are the stage of cleaning - it is quite dusty after not having students there for 5 months! If you would like to help get things shipshape for our teachers please let me know.
There has been a new a/c unit installed in the main part of the building over the summer which should be a lot healthier for everyone. We will make sure the rooms are well ventilated and that the children are outside whenever possible. In all we are planning and doing our goals are to keep students safe and to give them the best possible education under the circumstances. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Till next time....
